OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning
The OTHM, Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning, provides an ideal continuation opportunity for students on the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. The program is more suited to students who already have a Bachelor’s (Hon) degree award even though Teaching on this programme is equivalent in rigour to a degree.
The focus of the course is on teaching practice: modules cover Lesson Planning, Curriculum Design and Class Dynamics. Upon completing this course, you will be ready to take on a career as a Primary or Secondary School teacher.
The course encourages students to think at a deeper and more critical level than Level 5 studies. Alongside developing the key mechanics, you will reflect on your personality and preferred ways of working.
Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress to further study at Level 7 or embark on a teaching career.
Entry Requirements
For entry onto the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification, learners may:
- Possess a relevant NQF/QCF/RQF Level 5 diploma or equivalent recognized qualification.
- 18 years or older at the beginning of the course or
- Mature learners (over 21) with management experience
Applicants who are not from a majority English-speaking country must provide evidence of English language competency.
Course Progression
Learners who achieve the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification can progress into or within employment and continue further study.
Assessment Method
The course is 100% assignment based. Students must achieve all the learning outcomes to achieve a pass grade.
English Requirements
Please note that the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification is taught and assessed entirely in English. All Applicants applying for all entry onto the programme therefore need to demonstrate English language skills.
Non-native English speakers who have not carried out their final two years of schooling in English should demonstrate ability at a standard equivalent to:
- Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2
- PTE Academic 51, or
- IELTS 5.5 (reading and writing must be at 5.5
The level of English will be assessed as part of the selection process using a written statement and an interview.
Application and Selection Process
The application process allows the admissions team to select applicants meeting the above entry qualifications and demonstrate English Language competency. The admissions team will consider applications on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants should submit an application form and present required documents. The registrar will invite the applicants onsite where they are required to
- Complete a short selection test
- Write a personal statement, answering a few short questions in their own handwriting
- Attend an informal interview based on their personal statement
Successful applicants in the above will receive admission offers with an invitation to show evidence of how they will pay the tuition fees for the program.
Course Structure
The OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification consists of 6 mandatory units, for a combined total of 120 credits, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 480 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification. Each unit carries 20 credits and demands 200 Total Qualification Time and 80 Guided Learning Hours.
To meet this level of involvement, students attend compulsory classes over three terms, each comprising 12 weeks
